Informational Flier Design
Most recently, I have been designing graphics as a volunteer for a local Homeowner’s Association magazine that advertises local social events being held for the community. Due to the local scope of the project, my designs have been focused on being concise and not overly flashy.
Typically, these designs have also been highly themed, usually based on what’s happening at the event or a related holiday. For example, the design I created as pictured on the left is themed around American Independence Day.
For this project, I was also asked to alter the design of the flier to remove some excess sections of bold blue and red to help mitigate printing costs, and the image to left is the result.
This is one of the most recent designs I was asked to create for the magazine and it’s a flier to promote an upcoming cooking contest that will be held sometime around the annual Super Bowl, hence the football theme. I ended up creating some unique illustrated assets for this project, which are going to be used elsewhere in the magazine by the project organizer.

These designs are from a larger web magazine project which I made in InDesign. Photo editing and composition were the main challenges of this project as I had to carefully balance the use of eye-catching photos and informative text. As shown above, I experimented with overlapping the text and shapes to give the images depth without making the text elements unreadable. Another aspect of this project was that I had to design a unique logo for this mock-up of a cooking magazine. If you look closely at the ‘Chews’ logo you’ll notice that there’s a silhouette of a cut mushroom in the ‘C’ and the top ends of the letters create the outline of a bowl shape.
